The punk-rock Seventies

21 Feb 2008 In: fashion

The seventies. The decade in which soul music was in its highest peak, afro hair-styles - with these contrasting the punk-rock movement from United Kingdom. I consider the seventies as being a decade of exaggeration, of contrasts, which has its roots in the hippie movement from the sixties.

In fashion, this decade was the one of Kenzo Takada and Sonia Rykiel, with worldwide influences. There was a mixture of Western and Oriental folk influences in Kenzo’s creations, this way attracting young people to buy these clothes. Rykiel’s style was dominated by knitted garments, dark blacks, rhinestones, long boa-like scarves, and little crocheted hats.

Also, the seventies being the era of punk music, the fashion took another turn in London. it was all about the fetishistic accessories found at Vivienne Westwood’s SEX and pieces of clothing with black rubber and steel studs. To these add ripped T-shirts, Red Indian hair-do’s, bondage trousers, chains and Doc Martens, and you have yourself a cute little seventies anarchistic punker.

In the United States, women began to wear mostly jeans, the midi-length skirts myth started to fade away and be rejected by any, so the overall direction of fashion was towards simplification and longer skirts. The general tendency was towards creating unisex styles in fashion. But still, one could not destroy so easily a woman’s charm…even when she dresses boy-like.

Other names connected to the seventies you have probably heard of now and then are Giorgio Armani and Nino Cerruti. The first one released his first collection for women and 1975, and the other in 1976, two years later also releasing a perfume.

Great news! You’ll have another celebrity’s perfume on the racks in the near future. Avril Lavigne is set to release a fragrance of her own; actually Avril’s range of toiletries include:

  • after-shave,
  • bath oil,
  • bath soap,
  • shower gel,
  • body shampoo,
  • body lotion.

She has already a name in mind for the perfume: Sk8er Boi. Clever, huh?

After she started her career, releasing in 2002 the album Let Go, with her first super-hit Complicated, she plunged herself in those big Hollywood famous circles. Her music has lots of influences pop-rock, indie, punk, alternative, post-grunge. At the moment, she is resting in Miami with her husband, Deryck Whibley.

Life after death?

8 Feb 2008 In: Books, Stars

In the late 18th century Paris, two young companions sleep sound in their little attic for a new day that will help them make their dreams come true. Suddenly, one of them hears the sound of a broken glass and a pair of skinny, but strong hands pick him up to the sealing.

“Nicky! NICKY!”

His shouts are in vain. He is driven out of his chamber, flying trough the mists of reality and dream. He feels two sharp teeth piercing his throat, making his life flow out quickly, until the final moment. The helpless young actor raised his eyes, looking at the one who did such a horrible thing. The few drops of blood that remained in his body froze in less than half a second.

Interesting, don’t you think? I thought that this time I should talk about the well-known American writer, Anne Rice. You do remember this post in which I wrote something about “The Queen of the Damned”. Well, the movie is based on one of her books that is wearing the same title. Anne Rice wrote “The Vampire Chronicles”, a series of books about an entire world full of adventures, describing the vampires ways of life, thoughts and feelings, and in most of these books is present the vampire Lestat, an intriguing and fascinating character who lives an eternity of incredible things, even in our days. He is a powerful vampire, very elegant and sober, who knows how to survive and how to live between people. The books belonging to the Vampire Chronicles are:
